BLACK CULTURAL HISTORY
Immigration Systems and Black Intergenerational Trauma in Canada as it is a major concern within various cultures and citizens of our society.
The Edmonton Reggae Festival Society in collaboration with the Melisizewe Family will be hosting a film presentation based on poverty with a conversation on Immigration and Generational Trauma. The foundation of the film addresses the effects of generational trauma, and poverty and why some people migrate.
Anticipated outcomes for the film presentation are to provide knowledge and to identify systemic
racism within the immigration and governmental systems towards certain communities and provinces
that are in a position to make change and reach others. The overall goal is to make policy
changes that aid Black and immigrant communities.
Afro-Caribbean Roots & Drums Festival
At the festival's heart is a spectacular array of musical performances, with drums taking center stage. Traditional rhythms from across the Caribbean, including Afrobeat, calypso, reggae, and soca, create a pulsating soundtrack that fills the air. Live bands and solo artists showcase the intricate beats and melodic lines that have shaped Afro-Caribbean music, while dancers perform exhilarating routines that blend traditional and contemporary styles. The infectious energy of the performances invites everyone to join in, creating a communal celebration of rhythm and movement.
